Her recent solo concert took place in Eslite Performance Hall in Taipei, Taiwan in 2014. After pursuing a pre-college arts education at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California, Rita continued studying viola performance for her bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Texas Butler School of Music and finished her masters at DePaul University in Chicago. In the years following school, Rita was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, with an assistant principal position for the 2014 - 2015 season. She also became a fellowship member of the Chicago Sinfonietta and Grant Park Symphony Project Inclusion programs geared toward promoting diversification in the world of classical music. Alongside her orchestral pursuits, Rita is a founding member of the ATLYS String Quartet. Together they sailed the seas performing over 900 concerts representing Lincoln Center of NYC. Raised in Florence, Italy she received her Undergraduate Degree from Berklee College of Music (Film Scoring & Composition) and a Masters Degree (Music Technology & Composition) from New York University. Inspired by interesting sounds and cinematic elements, Drum & Lace melds together sampled field recordings and lush layers of synths to create densely textural and beat-heavy music, greatly drawing from film music, music concrete and modern electronica. Her ambient and chamber work also gathers great inspiration from nature and natural sound, as well as the juxtaposition of unlikely sounds with one another. Her composition work includes writing for film, tv, dance, theater, fashion and advertising. Feature-length film scoring credits include fashion documentary "The First Monday in May" (dir Andrew Rossi), HBO documentary "At The Heart of Gold- Inside the USA Gymnastics Scandal" (dir. Erin Lee Carr), and upcoming crime doc "The Penny Black" (dir William Saunders). Television credits include AppleTV+ Original Series "Dickinson" (created by Alena Smith) and season 3 of NBC “Good Girls” (created by Jenna Bans & Bill Krebs). Originally from New England, she started piano lessons at age five and soon switched to violin which took her through college. She made it to Los Angeles by way of New York City playing with many orchestras and small ensembles. Kristen was thrilled to be a featured guest at Marimba + Voice Festival 2019 and will be hosting the 2020 festival in Los Angeles this coming summer. Kristen was classically trained at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, earning a bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance, and has studied primarily with Josh Ryan and Joel Smales. She has studied voice with Joanne Uniatowski and Randy Messing. Additionally she received a master’s degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University.
